Please read the below email sent to staff late last week, the information has been sourced from the allstaff email list. This will be a great loss to the VCA.

Dear All
As many of you know, my contract as Director and Dean concludes in March. After 14 wonderful, productive years here, I have advised the Vice Chancellor I will not be seeking a renewal and will be moving on to new adventures.

I have leave accumulated and will step down from formal duties on 9th September. There will be an international recruitment process to identify the next Director and Dean and Deputy Dean Su Baker will be Acting Director from September 10th, until a new Director/Dean takes up the position.

It has been a privilege to lead the VCA since 1995, and I am proud of its international and national reputation and of the many artistic successes of our staff, students and alumni.

I’m grateful to the many benefactors who have contributed over $40 million during my term and enabled scholarships and visiting artists programs; the construction of the Performing Arts Building, VCA Hub, Federation Hall and the Art Gallery; the development of new Centres and programs, viz the Wilin Centre, the Community Cultural Development Program and the Centre for Cultural Partnerships, the Puppetry Program the Centre for Ideas and the Common Curriculum, and the establishment of the Development and Marketing Department.

The VCA has been blessed by a continuum of great Council and now Advisory Board members, and all the Boards I have worked with have been the very best a CEO/Director/Dean could hope for. It has also been a joy to work with such committed, passionate and hardworking staff, who have nurtured and supported the talent that we are so fortunate to host, and who have shared in celebrating the milestones (our joyous spirited graduations and open days; PM Keating’s visit; our celebration of Lenton Parr’s life; VCA’s 25th Anniversary, Drama’s 30th, Art’s 140th and FTV’s 40th birthday celebrations), and in responding to the challenges (Vanstone’s mere nicks; Nelson’s “level playing field”) along the way.

You have all contributed to the creation of a collaborative and genuinely mutually supportive and happy work environment… thankyou for making it a pleasure to come to work!

Warmly,

Andrea
